In the Second World War, it became a key site in the Battle of Normandy. The Memorial Museum celebrates peace in its commemoration of the end of this war. Caen is the capital of the department of Calvados and of the beautiful region known as Lower Normandy. Situated two hours north-west of Paris, and connected to the main European cities (London, Paris, Madrid...) with its European airport. Located but a few miles from the coast, the landing beaches, the Mont Saint Michel, the bustling resort city Deauville, Cabourg, Norman Switzerland and the Pays d'Auge (often considered the archetype of Normandy), Caen offers everything, especially the best crepes in the world.
